CCP ORGANISES SEMINAR AT JHANG CHAMBER OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY

JHANG, 18 DECEMBER 2015:



As part of the 'National Road Show on Competition Law', the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) organized a seminar at the Jhang Chamber of Commerce and industry (JCCI), and briefed the business community on Competition Law and also guided them on the adoption of Voluntary Competition Compliance Code. The seminar was conducted by CCP members Shahzad Ansar, Ikram Ul Haque Qureshi, and attended by the President of JCCI, Muhammad Umer Ramay, executive committee members and the business community in large number.

This week, six seminars on Competition Law were organized in Gujrat, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Jhang enabling the CCP to interact with the businessmen belonging to a host of industries ranging from cottage, small and medium enterprises to manufacturing, export and services. This has provided a unique opportunity to CCP to not only create awareness about the Competition Law, but also to pave the way for a regular future interaction with the businessmen through the focal persons appointed by the chambers of commerce and trade associations, which will help in improving business compliance.

The President JCCI in his welcome speech highlighted the importance of competition for the economic progress of the country and urged the business community to fully understand the provisions of the Law for the better compliance. He praised the role of CCP in promoting competition in the economy.

Dr. Shahzad Ansar, Member CCP, in his speech said that the purpose of the Road Show is to spread awareness about the Competition Law to help create a compliant business environment for innovation, business growth and economic progress of the country. He asked businessmen to approach CCP for resolving the competition related issues.

While briefing the participants on the important provisions of the Competition Act, Ikram Ul Haque Qureshi in his presentation gave an overview of the Competition Law and assured the business community of providing assistance in case of any complaints, suggestions or issues in competition related matters. Qureshi said that the enforcement of Competition Law was a must for business growth, innovation, and a progressive economy.

Shahzad Ansar in his presentation on deceptive marketing practices said that the role of CCP was to protect the consumers and businesses from misleading advertising, false and fraudulent use of another’s trade mark and misleading comparison of goods.

The participants of the seminar raised important issues concerning competition.
