The Competition Commission of Pakistan (the ‘Commission’) implements the Competition Act 2010 (the ‘Act’), so that businesses can operate on a level playing field. The competition regime provides for free competition in all spheres of commercial and economic activity to enhance economic efficiency and to protect consumers from anti-competitive behaviour.
encourage business growth, without which Pakistan would not be competitive in a global world; |
facilitate and assist in resolving problems in relation to compliance with the competition law – a business friendly stance; |
being transparent while maintaining the confidentiality of business-sensitive information; and |
being efficient to reduce enforcement as well as compliance costs for businesses. |
It is important for companies and employees to understand, first, the basic provisions of Pakistan’s competition law and help businesses recognise that, whatever their size, they face a certain degree of risk if they do not comply with the law. Second, helping businesses realise that anti-competitive practices can lead to imposition of financial and non-financial penalties under the Act. And third, to encourage businesses to understand the importance of competition compliance, clearly explaining the standards to be met.
