The Commission has initiated a capacity building programme for its officers, which includes a series of lectures by esteemed guests. As part of this programme, the first session was held with Mr. Aamir Khan, the Chairman of the Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). During the session, Mr. Khan discussed two topics - the role and performance of the SECP in relation to corporate governance, and the leadership skills required to become efficient public servants. In his discussion of the SECP's role, Mr. Khan explained that the SECP has implemented a strategy to become an efficient and dynamic regulatory body that fosters good governance in the corporate sector. The SECP ensures proper risk management procedures in the capital market and protects investors through responsive policy measures and effective enforcement practices. The SECP's focus is on promoting good governance in Pakistan's corporate sector by emphasizing transparency and accountability, the legal and regulatory environment, appropriate risk management measures, information flows, and the responsibility of senior management and the board of directors. Regarding the leadership skills required to become efficient public servants, Mr. Khan stressed the importance of adhering to work ethics and compliance. He emphasized showing utmost dedication and honesty in result-based performance. He advised against wasting time during office hours and urged dedicating time to completing job assignments with honesty, integrity, and dedication. On the occasion, the Chairperson Ms. Rahat Kaunain Hassan thanked Mr. Khan for his time and lecture and for sharing his insightful views on such important topics. The session was insightful for both senior management and mid-level officers of the Commission, as they gained valuable knowledge and practical advice from an expert in the field.
