Seminar on “Role of Competition in Improving Investment Climate"

Introduction

Competitive markets are now universally acknowledged as the best means of ensuring that consumers have access to the broadest range of goods and services at the most competitive prices. Ensuring consumer welfare, thus, is an important aspect of the competition law. Investment plays an important role in making markets competitive and thereby broadening consumer choice in terms of goods and services.

Therefore the Competition Commission of Pakistan has decided to organize a Seminar on the “Role of Competition in Improving Investment Climate” on 5th November at the Marriott Karachi. The Seminar will bring together people to help develop clarity on how competitive markets help improve the investment climate and work in tandem to help achieve the overall economic development goals of the Government of Pakistan.

Seminar Structure and Key Participants

The Seminar will be organized around three technical sessions, the topics of the sessions are: :

Session 1. The Nexus between Competitive Markets and Investment.
Session 2. Factors hampering Investment Climate.
Session 3. Competition and Investment – Cross-Cutting Issues within the WTO Framework

A number of distinguished experts on the subject from Pakistan and abroad will be attending the Seminar to share their views with the audience. Their participation will not only enrich the debate but also provide a global context in the discussion on competition and investment.

The participants include CEOs of multinational and national companies, representatives from business councils, regulatory agencies, legal community, government and media.

Registration

Interested participants can register for the Seminar by filling in the Registration Form and depositing a nominal registration fee of Rs.5000/-. This fee covers the cost of seminar materials, refreshments and lunch. Please refer to the registration form for further details. Upon successful registration, participants would be sent an invitation card. Due to the limited number of seats available you are requested to register yourself at the earliest.
